Eye Exams

At Sarah Young Opticians we have invested in the very latest ocular technology to give you the most complete & comprehensive eye care.

During your visit our optometrist will check your eyesight as well as the health of your eyes. We will screen for eye diseases such as glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, cataract and diabetic retinopathy.

We also offer Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans which provide the optometrist with a comprehensive view of the retina and its layers. This equipment can detect signs of eye disease up to four years earlier than a regular eye exam. OCT scans are an add-on to a complete eye test & incur an additional fee of €25.

We recommend that you have an eye examination at least every two years or more frequently if required.

Children’s Eye Exam:

Most children have excellent sight and do not need to wear spectacles. However, some children can have shortsighted, longsighted or astigmatic eyes just like adults and there also may be a squint or turn in their eyes. Their whole visual system is very flexible up until approximately 6/7 years of age; therefore it is very important that all children be assessed early to detect any difficulty.

It is estimated that 25% of school going children have an undiagnosed vision problem. Many parents believe that passing the school screening means their child has no problem. However the screening does not assess vision at near, eye muscle balance or health of the eye. If you are concerned about your child’s eyesight, we can carry out a full assessment in the practice. Your child does not need to be able to read or talk to carry out a sight test.
